Terry Judkins Shares His Story

My 1st Muzzle Buck
My 1st Muzzle Buck.
It was 2013 and if anyone remembers it was extremely cold and crunchy that year in the woods. I had been hunting down the road from my house up by the Green River Reservoir all day long where my father and I had always hunted before he passed away 2 years prior this was one of my first times hunting the woods without him.
I was hunting and ended setting up rattling-n-grunting on a hardwood nob looking over a gully, about 4 mins after doing a calling sequence a doe came running in that startled me and not 30 yards behind her was a one antlered buck with 5 points.
I was startled cuz I had never had anything come in like that before. I jumped up to shoot and as I got him into my scope he turned and ran into thick Xmas trees and I couldn't get a shot off. In my disappointment and anger I said I quit ann then got depressed as when that happens u get down on yourself and I was just wishing my dad would have been there with me cuz I know I would have had that buck.
So I said I'm heading home and as I'm driving home praying to my father please just let one slip up pops one more time n I'll get it done - Lol. So I pull in my driveway and see a deer outback on top of the sand pit first time I have ever seen a deer there in my entire life so I quickly look through the scope on my muzzleloader see that it's a racked buck n said to myself here we go!
So I sneak through the cow pasture up into the Pines and when I got there he was gone. Remember it's crunchy n quiet and about 4 above - so I go to where he was n could see he headed into the pine thicket so I took a few steps from one pine to the next n then could see him 200 yards away on the edge of the sand pit. I started crawling from tree to tree until my rangefinder said 174 yards so I leaned against the tree aimed on the backbone n shot hitting him through both lungs and finding him 20 yards away, I couldn't believe it my first buck without my Dad being alive, I was overcome with emotions and recovered the 7 point buck 127 lbs and thanking God and my father for everything....
Hunting to me is a way of life that has been instilled in me by my Father and Grandfather it was always a bonding time for my Father and I and it put food on the table for my family. There is no better feeling in the world than knowing that you harvested a deer and outsmarted it in every way to put food on the table for your family like so many family members before you...
I now hunt with my Girlfriend and Step Daughter and try and teach them all that my family has handed down to me and we are a daily camo wearing, outdoor hunting, fishing family that loves Vermont for all those reasons, we can do what we love year round and make lifelong memories doing so…
Thank u for having me share just one of my many memories and one of the ones that meant the most too me in my life as my father's voice was in my head this entire time just as if he was there with me...

Hunting will forever be a part of my life and my family's life for this exact reason. It's a feeling words can not describe honestly.

Every year hunting has provided my family with stories that will last a lifetime but so far, this is my favorite story of all.

Hunting has been a family event for me since I was little. I have two older brothers and my father taught hunter safety, so I was in the woods and learning about hunting at about 8 years old. In 2000 one of my brothers enlisted in the Air Force and... Read my full story.

There is this buck looking at me, I count his horns 1,2,3 bang!

Opening day 2016, 6:45 am I'm just pulling into the spot where I'm starting my day. Down near the tree line is a big o' buck staring at me. Typically my Grampa is with me hunting; however this year has been hard on him, unable to hunt with me, I went out on my own. Read my full story.
